Whether you’re considering a role in education, care or support services, our Introduction to Working with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) course is a great first step toward a rewarding and impactful career.

Drawing from the Level 1 Certificate in Health and Care, this course helps you build a strong foundation for understanding and supporting children and young people with SEND in educational or care settings.

This course will be delivered at various times throughout the year and delivered at our University Campus North Lincolnshire (UCNL).

What You’ll Learn

Course Structure

As part of this course, you will gain the following qualification:

  • Level 1 Certificate in Health and Care

We will explore…

  • The different types of special educational needs and disabilities
  • How to support individuals with empathy, patience and practical strategies
  • The importance of inclusive practice and person-centred care
  • Communication techniques and how to build positive relationships
  • Basic health and care principles relevant to SEND environments

As part of this course, you will also have the opportunity to attend an employer talk.

  • Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care – Online
  • Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism – Online
  • Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Working with People with Mental Health Needs – Online

With further training or experience, you could progress into roles such as:

  • Care assistant
  • Support worker
  • Nursery assistant
  • Classroom assistant
  • Activities coordinator
