North Lindsey’s positive parliament
As part of the College’s remit to engage and support students, a parliament was held online to give them the opportunity to join an open forum to discuss their College experience. The overwhelming feedback received during the session was positive, with attendees outlining that they felt tutors has been “really helpful” and offered vital support online. The College Group received a call from the Ofsted office in December to announce the Ofsted Interim Visit. An interim visit does not result in any evaluation or graded judgement of a college or change its current Ofsted inspection grade. The findings on the report received back from Ofsted was positive and contained encouraging feedback with highlights including: ‘Leaders have placed a strong focus on developing a more flexible approach toNorth Lindsey students become Peer Health Ambassadors
The College was approached by the AoC to get involved in a student peer mentoring scheme to help support students with their mental health. It has been recognised that students may go to their friends or peers before seeking professional help and this programme will provide the six selected students with the knowledge to direct those in need to the right people and to also become Mental First Aiders. Love Our Colleges is part of a national campaign and for 2020 one of the suggestions was to share memorable moments and best sporting achievements. Talented staff from across the College’s provision have come forward in droves to reveal some fantastic private passions and memorable events, that help to enrich students’ College experience through their own hidden talents. North Lindsey College is a member of the Association of Colleges (AoC) which wants to see colleges and funding for them prioritised nationally and locally to aid the recovery from the pandemic that will be vital to the future success of the country. The College is playing a huge part in a drive to return the Simplex Mechanical Locomotive to the Crowle Moors and create a physical link to historical peat working. Engineering students will be working on the project as part of their course and be part of the project. The restoration project is a working with interested parties including the Engineering UTC Northern Lincolnshire who will be creating a replica ofRenewables Course Significant Development
Those looking to progress into this sector can apply to study renewable engineering, delivered in the college’s specialist Engineering Technology Centre, based at the Kingsway campus in Scunthorpe. Adrian Streather (Mathematics lecturer at North Lindsey College) put his professional reputation on the line when he sat his GSCE maths but certainly led by example when he picked up his results; putting him in the top 2% in the country. Adrian wanted to re-sit due to the Government changes, top see how they impacted on the exam and conditions and also put himself in the same position as hisA Level Provision
A 100% achievement rate was reported in A Level maths, enabling many students to progress onto university. For many North Lindsey College students the move is not too far away with higher education provision available on site at The University Centre. Joel Brand (18) a former Frederick Gough student received a B grade in A Level Mathematics. The enrolment process will be taking place between 23 rd August and 30th August, with every new and returning student allocated a space during these dates.
