North Lindsey College Students Support Scunthorpe Samaritans with ‘Memory Tree’ Project.
Education and Early Years students from North Lindsey College have chosen to support the Scunthorpe branch of the Samaritans as part of their Personal Development class project.
As part of the initiative, students created a ‘Memory Tree’, now proudly displayed in and lighting up the College’s main reception. The tree invites staff, students, and visitors to write a memorial or empowering message on a heart, which can be added to the display in exchange for a small donation. All proceeds will go towards supporting the Scunthorpe Samaritans and their work in the local community.
Representatives from the Scunthorpe Samaritans visited the College to see the students’ work firsthand and were deeply impressed by their creativity and compassion. They also brought along information leaflets and merchandise to help raise awareness of mental health support services available through the charity.
Teresa Blanchard, Deputy Director Outreach for Scunthorpe Samaritans, said: “We are so grateful that the students have chosen our charity and are helping us spread awareness about mental health. This age group is one of the most vulnerable, and it’s vital that young people know support is available. The students’ project provides a valuable platform to reach others and make a real difference.”
Demi Kaye Chapman, a T Level Early Years and Childcare student, explained the group’s choice and said: “We chose the Samaritans because mental health is something everyone should be aware of, and it’s important for people to know they can access help when they need it. Supporting our local Scunthorpe branch means that any money we raise goes directly towards helping people in our own community.”
