North Lindsey College is investing £2.5 million in its construction department as the next step in an ambitious programme to modernise and enhance facilities at its Kingsway campus.
The significant investment will transform the existing facilities in the Global House building, creating flexible, industry-standard learning environments that increase capacity and support the development of construction skills across North Lincolnshire and the wider Humber region.
The redevelopment will create a modern and flexible construction training hub capable of supporting up to 800 students. Facilities for plumbing, brickwork, joinery and plastering will be extensively redeveloped and upgraded, providing students with high-quality environments that reflect the latest industry standards and practices.
The £2.5 million project includes almost £1.5 million of Government funding through the Construction Skills Capacity Fund, alongside £1 million of investment from DN Colleges Group.
The redevelopment will focus on key growth areas within the construction sector, including modern methods of construction, retrofit, renewable technologies and low-carbon construction skills. It will help address significant skills shortages across North Lincolnshire, the Humber, and Greater Lincolnshire, while ensuring students are equipped with the skills needed to meet the demands of a rapidly changing industry.
Working closely with employers, the project will create increased opportunities for training, work placements and progression into employment and apprenticeships. This strong employer focus will help strengthen the regional construction workforce, support economic growth and ensure local people can access the skills needed to contribute to future infrastructure, housing and net zero developments.
The investment also supports major regional growth opportunities linked to industrial decarbonisation, hydrogen, carbon capture, clean energy and infrastructure projects across the Humber and Greater Lincolnshire.
Danny Fenwick (Principal of DN Colleges Group) commented: “We are delighted to receive this further investment from the Government to develop our fantastic college. This investment in our Construction building, on top of the recent brand-new college building, signifies real confidence that DN Colleges Group is best placed to deliver technical and vocational skills across the region.
“Construction is a key priority for the Government, as well as a regional and local priority. This investment will mean future students can learn and develop in state-of-the-art facilities, while our local employers can also utilise them for the training and development of their own workforce. Technical and vocational skills are absolutely the future, and we are proud of our long and established history of delivering these skills and enabling our students to go on to bigger and better things.”
The project has been developed with significant support and input from industry employers including; Persimmon Homes, BAM, Britcon, Knauf and British Gypsum who have committed to supporting the college through a range of activities, including work placements, industry masterclasses, materials and equipment donations, employer talks, curriculum co-design and workplace visits.
This collaboration will ensure the new facilities and training provision remain closely aligned with the needs of employers and the future skills requirements of the region.
Marking a major step forward for construction training at North Lindsey College, the investment will play an important role in developing the skilled workforce needed to support the region’s economic ambitions, major infrastructure projects and transition to a low-carbon future.
