Posted: June 16, 2025

North Lindsey College was proud to welcome Musharaf Asghar, star of the acclaimed documentary ‘Educating Yorkshire’, to its annual awards ceremony, where he presented awards to students who were recognised for their exceptional achievements throughout the 2024/25 academic year.
Over the course of the year, teaching staff nominated students who demonstrated outstanding dedication, progress, and academic success. These nominations culminated in a celebratory evening, where students were honoured for their perseverance and commitment to their studies.
A total of seventeen awards were presented during the ceremony, spotlighting excellence across a broad range of programmes and departments. The event served as a powerful reminder of the talent and determination present throughout North Lindsey College.
Guest speaker Musharaf Asghar captivated the audience with his moving story of resilience. Following a serious health challenge that left him temporarily unable to speak, Musharaf was told by his GP he might never regain his voice. However, through sheer determination and the unwavering support of his teachers, he overcame the odds, relearning how to speak and finding his voice once more. His inspirational journey resonated deeply with students and guests alike.
Speaking at the event, Musharaf said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you for inviting me to be part of this incredible evening. Congratulations to everyone involved; teachers, parents, Governors, and all the staff who made this event possible as well as to the award winners and nominees.
“I attend many events, but the DN Colleges events are ones I can’t say no to and are the ones I always look forward to. It’s a really inclusive environment and shows the power of education and skills.”
This year’s ceremony also featured the prestigious Principal’s Award, personally selected by John Rees, Principal and CEO of DN Colleges Group. The award was presented to Harry Baisley, who not only received this top honour but also won the Inspiration Award, making him the standout achiever of the evening.
Reflecting on his double win, Harry said: “Receiving these awards was unexpected but truly appreciated. I’ve really enjoyed my course and love helping others. Tonight has been an amazing experience, it’s so encouraging for students to be recognised for their hard work and to feel proud of their achievements.”
The event was a resounding success, celebrating not only academic excellence but also the spirit of perseverance, growth, and inspiration.
