DN Colleges Group Takes Top Spot at Global Offshore Wind Awards

DN Colleges Group has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to the future offshore wind workforce, taking home a prestigious award at this year’s Global Offshore Wind Awards.

The Group’s Green Energy department celebrated the achievement at the fifth annual Global Offshore Wind Awards, which recognise excellence, innovation and leadership across the UK and international offshore wind industry.

DN Colleges Group was shortlisted in the ‘Powering the Future Workforce’ category at the ceremony, held in London on Tuesday 13 October 2027. The event brought together world-leading organisations from across the offshore wind sector to celebrate the people and partnerships driving the industry forward.

The award recognises DN Colleges Group’s commitment to developing the next generation of skilled professionals through its specialist green energy training and apprenticeship provision.

Working closely with Siemens Energy, Ørsted, OEG and GEV Wind Power, DN Colleges Group delivers a comprehensive apprenticeship programme co-designed to prepare trainee wind turbine maintenance engineers for successful careers.

The programme combines bespoke, immersive hands-on training with access to state-of-the-art equipment, dedicated learning spaces and a structured package of support, ensuring apprentices have the skills, knowledge and confidence to thrive from the outset of their careers.

The programme was recognised for its strong alignment with regional economic strategies and national priorities, including Net Zero, green jobs and advanced manufacturing. By equipping learners with the technical expertise required by the sector, DN Colleges Group is helping to strengthen the Humber’s position as the UK’s leading offshore wind cluster and support the region’s continued growth as a centre for renewable energy and innovation.

Steven Stark, Curriculum Leader for Green Energy Manufacturing Apprenticeships at DN Colleges Group attended the event and accepted the award on behalf of the Group. He commented: “We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a fantastic team, whose hard work, dedication and professionalism have made this award possible. We’re equally grateful to our outstanding employer partners, whose continued support has provided the foundations for our department to grow from strength to strength.

“This recognition feels like the beginning of something truly special for the college and highlights the importance of the work we do. Above all, this award is for our apprentices, whose commitment, ambition and relentless drive to succeed continue to inspire us. Without them, none of this would be possible.”

The achievement highlights the importance of collaboration between education providers and industry in addressing skills shortages, creating career opportunities and ensuring the UK has the skilled workforce needed to support the transition to cleaner energy.

Through its close partnerships with various sector leading employers; Siemens Energy, Ørsted, OEG and most recently, GEV Wind Power, DN Colleges Group continues to play a vital role in connecting education with industry demand, supporting local communities and helping to build a skilled, sustainable workforce for the future.
