Talented former hairdressing student becomes an author

Posted: June 30, 2022

Former Hairdressing student Jade Taggart has now released her very own book and has become an author at just 32 years old.

Since leaving North Lindsey College, Jade has had a fantastic career and developing her entrepreneurial mindset in the hair and beauty industry.

When Jade completed her course at North Lindsey College, she secured a very competitive place to continue with her education at York St John University to study for a foundation degree in media hair and make-up. This led her to a glittering career working on ITV sets including Emmerdale and Mr Selfridge before setting up her own business and writing a book.

Jade is a firm believer of keeping skills locally and says she has never forgotten her roots and is a regular guest speaker at the College, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps. Jade was initially inspired to work in the industry by her mum, who also had her own salon and was also particularly passionate about working specifically with long hair.

Jade began teaching her skills to others before returning to Scunthorpe to have her family and also open her own business Oakley Academy, specialising in professional hair extensions. Jade now delivers master classes all over the UK and in her salon, which led her to authoring her own book named ‘The Hair Extension Textbook’ which is available to purchase on Amazon.

Jade decided to write the book after finding a niche in the market for such a book relating to the hair extension industry, which Jade says is a very secretive and lucrative business and she hasn’t held back with these details. The book also has an ingenious QR code feature which enables the reader to access full step-by-step guide to  the application and removal process.

Jade said, “I always wanted to be an author and share everything I have learnt. It is important to meet, connect and network with others and we need people to be proud of Scunthorpe and the core skills that I learnt from North Lindsey College is everything. My intentions are to stay local, keep a strong workforce and have highly skilled people in Scunthorpe.”

Karon Smith (North Lindsey College Curriculum Leader, Hair and Beauty) said, “Jade is a former hairdressing student who has gone on to prove that with ambition you can do anything you put your mind to. We are extremely proud of Jade who regularly comes into the College to deliver masterclasses to our students and share her story with our current students. Jade’s story proves how diverse our programmes are at North Lindsey College and that they can lead to a variety of careers in the industry.”
