Amy, a previous Winterton Community Academy student, is now a fully qualified registered nurse and works in accident and emergency.
After finishing school, Amy enrolled on a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care and achieved an A grade, equivalent to three grade A’s at A Level. In her first year, Amy completed work experience at Emerald Care Services, a local care provider. She then went onto complete a work experience placement, working with children, on the Disney Ward at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust.

Health and Social Care is a growing sector with excellent job security and career progression opportunities.
Registered nurse practitioners provide nursing care for the sick, injured and others in need of such care, assist medical doctors with their tasks and also provide care independently, including diagnosing patients, the ordering and interpretation of tests, the determination of treatment and prescription of medication.
Midwifery nurses deliver, or assist in the delivery of babies, provide antenatal and postnatal care and advise parents on baby care. They work with other healthcare professionals and advise on and teach midwifery practice.
Healthcare practice managers plan, organise, direct and co-ordinate the work and resources of medical, dental and other types of healthcare practice, including veterinary practices.
Job holders in this unit group carry out a variety of technical health support functions.
