Posted: December 12, 2019

Ethan Borg- Jackson (16) was recognised for his ongoing volunteering at Lindsey Lodge Hospice in the in-patient unit, supporting events and following in his Grandma’s footsteps by working in the café to help raise money.

The awards, organised by North Lincolnshire Council in partnership with the Scunthorpe Telegraph, recognise those who go the extra mile to make a difference in their community with 23 different categories awarded.

Ethan is in his first year at the College and is studying on the Level 3 Health and Social Care course.  Ethan aspires to be a nurse when he leaves College and has been looking to apply for the University of Nottingham.

Ethan said, “It’s overwhelming to have won, especially with so many other nominees.  Hopefully it shows the dedication I’ve put into it.  It was a really good experience and truthfully everyone there was a winner.  I enjoy helping out local charities and caring for other people and that’s why I am wanting to be a nurse.”

The shortlisted nominees enjoyed a glamorous evening at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe as their achievements were celebrated.   Staff member, Emma Buttrick, Health and Social Care tutor at North Lindsey College who teaches Ethan, was also recognised at the event as runner-up for her Outstanding Contribution to a Learning Community.   Emma’s fundraising efforts have made a difference to local charities for Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
