Posted: May 9, 2019

Sport students from North Lindsey College have travelled to Holland to train with sports coaches from West Ham United and the England Netball Squad.

The forty-four sport and uniformed services students travelled to Limburgse Peel on Monday 15th April 2019 to train with the high-ranking coaches and other teams from across Europe.

The Men’s Football Team trained with West Ham Utd Community Sports coaches and the Women’s Netball Team trained with England Netball squad coaches, who are currently ranked number two in the INF World Rankings.

Each team then played several fixtures against other college sports teams from across Europe.

The North Lindsey College Women’s Netball Team put on a spectacular performance winning the tournament after being victorious in both matches.

Former St Lawrence Academy student, Bethany Busby said, “I mainly enjoyed the training. It was good to learn and take advice and we applied it to the game. We won the tournament in the under 18’s category. “

The North Lindsey College’s Men’s Football Team beat Sparta U18s Football Team 3-1 in Kronenburg. This was then followed by matches against Sevenum and Hegelsom with a win of 2-0 and loss of 5-1.

Former Frederick Gough School student Finlay Ombler said, “It was good to play people in another country and environment. I really appreciate the hard work that was put into organising this. It has inspired me to play more.”

Ian Hamilton, Curriculum Leader of Sport and Uniformed Services at the College said, “We run these sports tours to give students the opportunity to compete in competitive sports against other nationalities. They get to experience professional training from professional coaches within their sport and take the training into competitive fixtures. Next year we are looking at Malaga and the possibility of a Caribbean sports tour to Barbados.”

Finally, the group of students visited Phantasialand theme park in Germany. Throughout the visit students also had the opportunity to take part in a variety of other enrichment opportunities including bowling, swimming, golf, karting and watching other tournaments.
