North Lindsey holds its First Virtual Awards Ceremony to Celebrate Student Success

Written by Emma Doyle

North Lindsey College held its awards ceremony with a virtual difference due to the Covid-19 Lockdown.

Every year the College celebrate students’ achievements and was keen to celebrate again, despite being unable to hold a physical event on campus.

Danny Fenwick (Assistant Principal for Education Programmes for Young People) said: “Our first-ever virtual awards ceremony was a fantastic opportunity to recognise the hard work, talent, resilience and altruism of our students. The nominations really highlighted the positive impact our students are having not only on their own life chances, but on their families, communities, local charities and businesses. They should all be extremely proud of themselves and their achievements. There are so many staff supporting our students on a daily basis and they all go above and beyond to ensure the best outcomes for our students. I know they are all very proud of our students and each other for all that they do.”

The College holds an annual awards evening every year to celebrate students hard work and progression and this year was no different, only modified to an online celebration. Sport Student, Bethany Busby (18) said, “I am in my last year of College and won the award for outstanding achievement in sport over an online event. With the current circumstances, I thought the event was well structured and planned out. I am very appreciative of winning this award and I am proud of all the achievements and opportunities I have completed over a fantastic two years with North Lindsey College!”

Twenty-one awards were given out during the event, with the winners receiving a certificate and gift token through the post. One of those winners included retired Boxer Tommy Coyle, who scooped the award for Business Support, with the Box Clever Bus project. Tommy also recorded a message of thanks to the College for their support which also included a message to students to keep positive during the current situation.

Mick Lochran, Principal, North Lindsey College said, “While it was impossible to have our annual awards ceremony in the College, we felt it was more important than ever to recognise the fantastic achievements of our students. The virtual awards ceremony was a great example of the innovative approach that the College has adopted and was really well received by students, parents and our community.”

The celebration provides the opportunity for students to celebrate their achievements with friends, tutors, peers and family. The College are proud of students’ successes this year, with the event also recognising staff and employers’ input.
