Functional Skills qualifications. Entry levels are classroom-based only. Levels 1 and 2 can be classroom-based or there will be an online option available very soon. The course takes approximately 16 weeks of lessons (2 lessons per week). Online learners will be able to go at their own pace.
There are 3 modules to the course:
Number – we will cover the four main operations (adding, subtraction, multiplication and division), fractions, decimals and percentages, and (at Levels 1 and 2) ratio and proportion.
Measures, shapes and spaces – we will cover the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, measuring length, weight and capacity, calculating with money (including interest and discounts at Levels 1 and 2) and calculating areas and perimeters.
Handling data – we will cover finding the mean, median, mode and range of a set of data, interpreting and creating graphs and charts, grouping data and probability.
There is one exam at the end of the course, covering all three modules.
An initial assessment will be conducted to ensure you are studying at the most appropriate level for you.
On completion of their first level, some learners will move on to the next level. Learners studying at Level 1 and 2 often move into higher education.
