UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Performance & Production

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Performance and Production is the second year of a two-year programme. This course provides skills, knowledge and understanding in a  range of subject areas such as composition, sound recording, mixing and production, sequencing, music business, music theory, band rehearsal techniques and live performance.

This course is practical based providing you with the opportunity to perform regularly at college events and external venues or record, mix and produce bands in a professional  recording studio or compose music for film, games and streaming platforms such as “Spotify” and “Tidal”.

By the end of the course you will have the skills, knowledge and understanding to undertake a ‘final major project’ (FMP) whereby you will choose one of the following: a 20-minute  live performance, a 10-minute recording portfolio, a 10-minute composition portfolio or something else of your choosing that hits all the criteria, which will be discussed with your  tutors.

All assessments will be achieved through coursework and practical activities, known as projects.

A minimum of 5 GCSEs at graded 9 – 4 (or A* – C) including English and Maths or a Level 2 qualification, this is subject to discussion at your interview.

Please note: If you are pursuing the performance pathway we expect you to be experienced and proficient on your chosen instrument and/or vocals. A video audition of you playing and/or singing will also need to be submitted to us prior to your interview.

Students typically progress onto a Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance, specialist higher education courses or employment in a music-related field.

Possible employment opportunities include; professional musician, music producer, sound engineer or technician. Other possibilities include working for record labels or music publishers in such areas as A & R, marketing, promotion and publicity.
