Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures)

Course Overview

This programme will provide you with an introduction to electrical installations. It has been developed to support career progression into either electrical installation or engineering (although predominately electrical route) through a range of practical and theory-based learning activities. Throughout the course you will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work within a domestic, commercial and building services environment. You must pass a colour blind test to be eligible for the course.

Units you may study include:
Health and safety
Electrical science principles
Electro-technical installations technology
Installations of wiring systems and enclosures
Communication within building services engineering
Employability skills

Ideally at least 4 GCSEs at grade 9-4 or grade A*-D or a Level 1 qualification in Engineering, but this is subject to discussion at your interview. If you haven’t already achieved a GCSE grade 5 or grade C in English or Maths, then you will study either GCSE or Functional Skills English or Maths alongside your other qualifications.

Students may have the opportunity to study additional subjects and participate in sporting, social or enterprising activities. Examples of the various activities will be made available to you by your tutors; opportunities are varied and change each year.

We plan to offer work experience, employer talks, employer visits and other employer involvement in all our programmes.

After completing your course you could progress on to study a Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Technology (Installations). Alternatively, you could progress straight into employment in the engineering industry including an apprenticeship. In the future you could work in electrical maintenance or electrical installations.
