The qualification is designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to enhance their career potential in the computing profession. The course is aimed mainly, but not exclusively, at those who have some computing experience.

This course aims to provide students with an education and learning experience that will instil knowledge, develop critical and intellectual abilities applicable to problem solving and solution specifying in technologically and socially diverse environments.

Students may progress from the HND, with a good profile, directly into Year 3 of the BSc (Hons) Computer Science at the University of Lincoln. A HND qualification would also provide progression into other relevant honours degrees with the point of entry depending upon the University applied to.

Alternatively, on successful completion of a HND, students often seek employment to pursue careers across a wide range of industries seeking IT professions in roles such as programming, systems analysis, systems management and database development.

A variety of assessment methods are used, made up of a combination of coursework, in-class tests and some examinations
