Functional Skills qualifications are designed to enable students to develop confidence and fluency in maths and English. They focus on both underpinning skills as well as the ability to apply maths and English to different contexts. They equip students with the practical skills to get the most out of education, work and everyday life and to help them function more confidently, effectively and independently.
With employers in mind, Functional Skills English and maths qualifications have been designed to better equip individuals with the skills required to succeed in the workplace.
Functional Skills level 2 qualifications are at the same level as a grade 4 or C and above at GCSE.
Opening up job opportunities to individuals with a Functional Skills level 2 as well as GCSEs means that employers can widen their pool of applicants and increase their options.
Functional Skills qualifications are available across five levels (Entry 1 to Level 2).
In Maths you will study skills in Number, Measures, Shape and Space, and Handling Data.
For maths there is one assessment with two sections, non calculator and calculator, and for English there are three – speaking & listening, reading and writing elements.
