North Lindsey College welcomed the local the community onto campus for its latest Open Event with huge numbers in attendance.

Over 1,700 attended the popular Scunthorpe college’s event, which took place on Tuesday 18th October.

The College was a hive of activity with subject areas showcasing students’ work and their industry-standard facilities. The event was a great opportunity for future students to discover how the college can support them to develop their potential and aim for the chosen careers.

Visitors were able to see the college’s newly installed Health Simulation Suite for aspiring health care professionals, the enhanced Art workshops, a range of performances by Dance, Musical Theatre and Acting students, alongside musical sets by aspiring musicians and sound techs. The Engineering Technology Centre gave people an insight into fabrication and welding, electrical and mechanical engineering alongside motorsport and paint and body, further into campus aspiring uniformed services personnel had the opportunity to take part in a crime scene investigation and try their hand on the shooting range.

Head of Marketing Emma Turner said: “Our October Open Event is always a huge highlight of the academic year for us, we are extremely proud of the opportunities and support we offer to our students to develop their skills in sector-leading facilities, so it’s a great night for us to showcase this. The event presents potential students and their families with the chance to wander around campus at their own pace, talk to tutors and current students and get a feel for the subject areas they’re interested in.”

Bradley Sigfusson (15) came to the event with a keen interest in sport and after visiting the area he said, “It’s been a really good evening, the sport team were really helpful and we had a good look around. We didn’t know about the gym and that all students can use it for free so that was great. The event was really helpful with my choices when I leave school.”

Scarlett Kirwen (15) was keen to view the music department. Scarlett said, “The department exceeded my expectations and gave me really good insight of music at North Lindsey. The performances were impressive and had a good range, the recording studio was really good to see too. The tutors were informative and really welcoming.”

The Mayor of North Lincolnshire was in attendance at the event as an annual tradition dating back many years. DN College’s Group CEO, John Rees said, “It was fantastic to see so many people join us for the recent Open Event on 18th October. Prospective students were able to get a great feel for the North Lindsey College experience and it was particularly rewarding to see our current students, many of whom are quite new to the College themselves, showcasing their work and the opportunities available. The staff team did an incredible job in preparing a varied and exciting programme and I know the feedback received on the evening and since then has been extremely positive. It was also a great opportunity for our partners to see the life and work of the College first hand and I’d like to thank the Mayor, Councillor John Briggs for his support in attending the event and for the interest he showed in the work of our students and staff.”

More feedback came from the college’s Ofsted Outstanding Foundation Studies area, with visitors Tracy and Evie Spencer who said, “Can I just say though how blown away I was with the Foundation Studies. Such an amazing environment and lots to see.”

”Now I know more about it we think it’s something we will discuss more over the coming months. Such a lovely environment. I feel so much better now I know more about it. It’s going to be a massive change but something I think will give Evie the independence she needs.”
