College Group has qualifications down to a ‘T Level’

Posted: February 1, 2022

Students at DN Colleges Group are halfway through their first year of studying for a T-Level qualification.

T-Levels are new qualifications presented to further education students who are looking for a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience during an industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days).

Investment secured through T-Level building and resource funding at both North Lindsey College and Doncaster College, both part of DN Colleges Group, has enabled state-of-the art teaching, learning and assessment facilities for our students to access during their time studying T-Levels within the Group.

DN Colleges Group began delivering T-Levels from September 2021 in the areas of Health, Education, Construction and Digital. In Health we are delivering the Adult Nursing Pathway, in Education the Early Years Pathway, in Digital the Digital Production, Design and Development Pathway and in Construction the Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction pathway.

At the North Lindsey College campus site alone, huge transformations have taken place to accommodate T-Levels. This has included digital state of the art games animation and digital production suites along with high powered PC’s in Digital Technologies, new furniture, new decor for regular IT rooms as well as a new multi-function recording studio with control room for podcasts, photoshoots and filming.

Childcare and Health & Social Care has a new simulation hospital ward, simulation residence, virtual nursery and an observation room. All of the teaching rooms have also been redecorated and new carpets fitted.

Two brand new modern breakout spaces have also been created for the students with new pastoral spaces that staff and students can use with new signage, decoration and wall art. Modern furniture has been used in classrooms and space has been created to facilitate independent study.

Renewable technology for heating both buildings is being installed that the T-Levels are in, this isn’t T level funded but is part of the narrative for that area.

Bailey Chappell (16) is currently studying in the T-Level Technical Qualification in Health and said, “The T-Level programme is really good and we have really good access to new equipment and you can see where the investments have been made. This programme offers a stronger focus on science and we have already been doing more biology and physics which I believe will benefit my career. I am looking to progress onto university when I leave college to study physiotherapy and have already secured work experience at a local practitioners.”

At present 89 students are enrolled on the T-Level programmes across the DN Colleges Group. In September 2022 we will be delivering a T-Level in Engineering and Business alongside the ones we have begun delivering this academic year.

Students who have enrolled on a T-Level within DN Colleges Group are now beginning to access their placements with a variety of Employers in order to start linking the theory that they are learning at the College to the skills that are required in order to successfully transition into Employment after completion of their T-Level.
