College Celebrates National Apprenticeship Week 2020
North Lindsey College celebrates the success of their apprentices during the 13th annual National Apprenticeship Week (NAW).
As the largest provider of apprenticeships in the region, North Lindsey College supports the week every year. National Apprenticeship Week enables apprenticeship supporters from across the country, with MPs, ambassadors, apprentices, training providers and top employers involved in recognising the value and importance of apprenticeships.
The week-long celebration consisted of an array of activities based around apprenticeships including in-house competitions in the College’s construction department, a cross-College Open Event, apprenticeship talks and drop in sessions as well as an annual Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony, sponsored by a wide range of businesses from the region.
This year the theme of NAW was based on, ‘Look Beyond’ to call on young people to look beyond traditional routes into employment, on employers to look beyond traditional hiring routes and calling on parents and teachers to look beyond old preconceptions around apprenticeships.
North Lindsey College celebrated the success with an awards ceremony, highlighting some of the College’s successes, which was attended by special guest speaker, Adam Corbally who reached the final in season 8 of the BBC TV show ‘The Apprentice’.
Adam said, “I love everything about apprenticeships. I have been speaking all over the UK this week championing apprenticeships and everything about National Apprenticeship Week. I’m honoured to be the guest speaker at North Lindsey College Apprenticeship Awards and endorse the message of, ‘when you surround yourself around the right people and mentors, anything is possible’.”
All the awards were sponsored by key employers in the region including City Electrical Factors Ltd, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, UCNL, Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust, Little Cygnets Nursery, Sophie Amelia Salon, Havercroft Construction Ltd, Nisa Retail Ltd, Semborp Energy UK Ltd, Truck Links Ltd, Total Lindsey Oil Refinery Ltd, Grayton Ltd and British Steel.
Valerie Ayris (DN Colleges Director of Apprenticeships) said, “the employers, apprentices and college staff have really embraced the events that we are holding during National Apprenticeship Week. It is wonderful to see so many apprentices being successful and progressing into full time employment or being promoted at the end of their apprenticeship.”
Level 3 Apprentice, Eleanor Walmsley spoke of her apprenticeship and winning an award at the College’s apprenticeship event and said, “I’ve loved every second of my apprenticeship and work with so many nice people.” She continued, “The apprenticeship awards ceremony has been a really good night; encouraging people to do apprenticeships and I’ve never looked back.”
