Bradbury Group Secures Skills Support for their Workforce
North Lindsey College has joined forces with Bradbury Group to pilot bespoke training with Bradbury Group through European Social Fund (ESF) Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW).
The Bradbury group are a Scunthorpe-based engineering company specialising in production of steel doors. Their initial training interest was for a Technical Certificate in Lean Organisation Management and a Diploma in Business Improvement Techniques.
The Workforce Development Department team based in New Beacon House at the Kingsway site, has supported Bradbury using SSW funding to allow them to access the training for free. Twelve members of staff are taking advantage of this training with all looking to complete in February 2020. Alongside these and to support standardising, the training all the team are completing Level 2 NVQs in Performing Manufacturing Operations and a Certificate in Warehouse and Storage to affirm working methods are to National Standards.
SSW funding is a programme developed to up-skill employees within small and medium businesses. It provides recognised accredited qualifications and bespoke training courses to enhance employees’ skills, increase the competitiveness of businesses and boost the local economy. It also allows providers to develop a bespoke training programme relevant to a company’s needs, and because this programme is being financed by the ESF, a wide range of training can be accessed at no cost to the business.
Andrew Kilmartin (Stores Manager at Bradbury) said, “The pilot program has been very beneficial not only from a business prospective but also for the individuals which have been part of this. I must stress that originally trying to accommodate all the different courses could be seen as adventurous and maybe a step too far. However, Dave and the whole team of trainers have been nothing but exceptional as they have balanced the production and training requirements to deliver tailored, relevant and enjoyable training courses. I would happily encourage other businesses to enable their teams to develop through completing these training courses, as we are already starting to reap the rewards. Once we have completed all the courses, I will be sitting down with Dave and his team to discuss how we can continue to develop my team as everyone has seen the benefits, from the trainees to the directors.
