Measures to Support Accessibility
North Lindsey College takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of our website:
- Assign clear accessibility targets and responsibilities.
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. NLC is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.
Our websites include some legacy content developed or created prior to our current website. We know some of this content does not meet web standards and are gradually removing this content piece by piece.
Some of our older PDFs do not meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be fully accessible to a screen reader. We are working to replace all of this content where possible, and all new content created for the website is designed to be available in multiple formats.
Some content we publish in PDF format such as advertising brochures prospectuses include content which is not fully accessible. Where this occurs, all content does also exist on our website in other formats for example our course pages and course subject area pages.
Where possible, videos and audio are accompanied on our web pages by the relevant content in other forms. For example student testimonials may be in video format with quotes also used around the page content.
We do not provide transcripts or audio description for all our videos, however subtitles are available for our videos using the automated service provided by YouTube.
Occasionally we have produced or been provided with produced artwork where text is placed over images and the contrast may not be as high as we would like. This will be avoided where possible and we will ensure that any information displayed in this manner is also available in an accessible format.
Occasionally we have produced or been provided with externally produced artwork where text is placed over images and the text size may not be as large as we would like. This will be avoided where possible and we will ensure that any information displayed in this manner is also available in an accessible format.
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of our website. Please let us know if you encounter accessibility barriers on our website:
