Science manufacturing process operatives are employed across the science sector. The sector includes companies working in Nuclear, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Formulated Products, Packaging and Polymers. A science manufacturing process operative will undertake basic operations and monitoring of plant and equipment, including pumps, valves, temperature gauges, filtration equipment, tanks, vessels and production/processing machinery; or they will safely operate machines to process/ manufacture, assemble and finish component parts or finished products by hand, appropriate to their level of responsibility.
The working environment may require the use of specialist safety equipment. They may also have to comply with
the requirements of Good Manufacturing Process (GMP) regulations if operating in a ‘clean room’ environment. A science manufacturing process operative will be expected to work in a supervised environment either individually
or as part of a team. They will be expected to contribute to the maintenance of product quality and be involved in basic process improvement opportunities. They will have an appropriate level of knowledge of health and safety requirements within the industry, basic operating
procedures and take a multi skilled approach to achieving production/processing targets.

Typically, this apprenticeship will take 18 months to complete.
Learners will attend North Lindsey College on block release for taught sessions, excluding half terms and holidays.
In total, learners have to spend 20% of their time on programme completing Off-The-Job training, this includes their block release. Apprentices will be supported by 1:1 meetings in the workplace by their dedicated Programme Tutor. Additional learning resources and information will be made available online to ensure a fully blended learning experience.
All apprentices must undertake an independent end- point assessment which is an assessment of the knowledge, skills and behaviours that have been learnt throughout the apprenticeship. The purpose of the assessment is to make sure the apprentice meets the standard set by employers and are fully competent in the occupation.
Apprentices without level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.

UK
£6000 – Apprenticeship Levy payers will pay the full cost from their levy: employers with 49 or less staff with an apprentice aged 16-18 years will pay no fees; all other employers will pay 5%.
If you are an employer with an annual wage bill of £3 million or more, you will pay into an apprenticeship levy. This levy is then used to pay for the full cost of the apprenticeship course.
There are incentives available if you are a small employer (under 50) and if you train/recruit a 16-18 year old.
