North Lindsey College Students Take Their Learning Global

Posted: April 1, 2026

Twelve Policing and Uniformed Services students from across the DN Colleges Group travelled to Bali, Indonesia, in the latest international placement funded through the Turing Scheme, giving them the opportunity to gain valuable work experience overseas.

Through the Turing Scheme UK, these fully funded placements allow learners to develop professional skills, broaden their horizons, and gain invaluable insight into working within different cultures around the world.

In partnership with Think Pacific, students were able to visit public service organisations including the Red Cross, disaster response teams, and Fire & Rescue services. They also took part in a variety of cultural and community experiences such as temple visits, coffee plantation and rice-terrace tours, Batik painting, and traditional Balinese Gamelan music and dance workshops.

“I’d never been to Asia before, so the trip gave me a huge amount of cultural insight. Everyday life in the villages was so different from anything I’d experienced before,” said Uniformed Services student, Henry Willey. “It was also really eye-opening to see services such as the Red Cross, police and fire service in Bali, particularly how much of their work focuses on responding to natural disasters compared to the UK. The trip was a very valuable experience, and I’d encourage future students to go in with an open mind and take part in everything.”

The government-funded Turing Scheme is a national initiative enabling students to access international study and work placements, helping them build confidence, cultural awareness, and employability skills. In recent years, it has seen North Lindsey College students experience destinations including Fiji, the United States of America, and St Lucia, gaining hands-on experience in diverse global settings.

Daniel Reilly, Uniformed Services Programme Tutor at DN Colleges Group who accompanied his students to Bali, said: “Experiences like this are invaluable for our students. Taking them to Bali allowed our them to see first-hand how discipline, teamwork, and leadership operate in real situations, not just in the classroom. Working with emergency services, humanitarian organisations, and local communities in Bali challenged them to step outside their comfort zone, grow in confidence, and develop skills that will stay with them for life. These opportunities help shape not only better students, but stronger, more capable young people ready for the future.”

Students from North Lindsey College will soon be gaining more international industry experience with Construction and Art & Design learners travelling to Thailand next month, followed in June by Catering and Sport students heading to Italy and Early Years and Health & Social Care students returning to Thailand.

North Lindsey College continues to develop international partnerships and expand the range of overseas opportunities available to its learners, ensuring students are equipped with the skills, confidence, and global outlook needed for their future careers.
