Health and Social Care Students Donate funds to ‘Just Sing’

Posted: February 19, 2026

Staff and students from Health and Social Care at North Lindsey College have proudly presented a donation of funds and musical instruments to local dementia-friendly choir Just Sing, supporting individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-related conditions.

The funds were raised through the group’s participation in a festive Elf Walk held in December, with all proceeds dedicated to the choir. Thanks to their efforts, the donation will cover six months of accommodation costs, as well as the purchase of small musical instruments and refreshments to enhance sessions for members.

Choosing to support a local charity was especially important to tutor Emma Buttrick and her students, who were keen to ensure their fundraising made a meaningful difference within their own community. The group raised enough money to combine financial support with practical resources to help sustain the service, which is open to anyone wishing to attend.

Ann Flower from Just Sing said: “I was contacted in December by Emma asking how she could help. After meeting with her, the group decided that some simple musical instruments would be incredibly beneficial. Emma also kindly offered to provide funding to help cover our hall fees. We are extremely grateful for her support and wish her every success in her future fundraising events.”

Emma, the driving force behind the initiative, has now raised a remarkable £10,000 for causes supporting those living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Her dedication is deeply personal, inspired by the loss of her father to the disease. Following his passing, she made a commitment to help other families facing similar challenges.

Based in Epworth, Just Sing is a welcoming and inclusive choir that supports people living with a wide range of memory-related conditions. The group sings modern songs and provides refreshments, creating opportunities for social connection and wellbeing through the power of music.

Emma Buttrick, Health and Social Care Tutor at North Lindsey College, said:
“Music is pure magic for people living with dementia and can bring so much joy. Some visitors who attend Just Sing are non-verbal in daily life, yet music enables them to sing. Supporting local groups like this is incredibly important to me, and I’m proud to be able to support Just Sing.”
