North Lindsey College Expands Animal Family with Arrival of Sugar Gliders

Posted: February 17, 2026

North Lindsey College is delighted to announce the arrival of two new residents in its Animal Management department.

Bobby and Mo, six-year-old brother sugar gliders, joined the College’s animal collection just before Christmas and have since settled in extremely well. The pair were acquired from a popular tourist zoo that was no longer able to meet their specialist care requirements, with the College stepping in to ensure they could continue to thrive in a suitable environment.

The new arrivals have already captured the hearts of students, offering invaluable hands-on learning experiences while enhancing understanding of specialist animal care, welfare, and enrichment.

Louise Davey, Team Leader for Animal Management at DN Colleges Group, said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome these amazing animals to our collection. Our team has worked closely with the keepers at their previous residence in order to settle them in with us as smoothly as possible. Having them as part of our collection means the students get a wide variety of experience during their studies.”

Native to Australia, New Guinea, and Tasmania, sugar gliders are nocturnal mammals renowned for their remarkable ability to glide distances of up to 45 metres. Their arrival has provided Animal Management students with a rare and valuable opportunity to work closely with one of nature’s most unique species.

In captivity, sugar gliders have an average lifespan of 10 – 15 years, meaning the brothers have a bright future on campus and are set to play a meaningful role in many students’ learning journeys for years to come.

“Working with the sugar gliders has been a really good opportunity,” says Presley Pass, a Level 3 Animal Management student at the College. “It adds more diversity to our animal unit. Since they are a nocturnal species, we don’t get to see them too often, but when we do it’s an awesome treat.”

The addition of Bobby and Mo further strengthens North Lindsey College’s commitment to delivering high-quality, practical learning experiences for students studying Animal Management.
