Phil Whitehead works across DN Colleges Group, which comprises of North Lindsey College, the UCNL and Doncaster College and University Centre, developing his own interest using Microsoft tools to help improve the experience for both students and staff across the Group.
After attending a Microsoft Training session last year, he realised not only could the College benefit from training but other providers as well. In doing so, he decided to set-up a YouTube channel ‘teachblend’ that he could work on in his own time to share his experiences of using technology for teaching and learning.
Microsoft Education via Twitter posted: “We’re Shining our Teacher Spotlight onto Phil Whitehead, AKA @PhilEdTech. Phil is being recognised for his fantastic tutorials on all things Microsoft Education and @Wakelet.”
Phil supports staff and students across DN College Group at both North Lindsey College in Scunthorpe and Doncaster College in their use of digital technologies. Anything from staff development, digital pedagogy, e-safety and online / blended learning, this involves, identifying new and emerging technologies which would benefit students and staff and then providing training and materials on these tools.
Phil Whitehead, Digital Teaching and Learning Manager for DN Colleges Group said: “I found a niche as a Teacher and created content and videos for teachers but from a teaching perspective, talking not only how to use technology but how it could supplement and improve teaching and learning.”
Due to COVID, Phil used the same platform to help numerous colleges and schools across the UK and the world with some videos getting well over 120K views.
He continues: “It was a great honour to be recognised by Microsoft on the work I had done by these videos, but what made me happy was knowing that the materials and videos I had made had supported parents, teachers and students during this difficult time.”
