Celebrity Hair and Makeup Artist Gives the Ultimate Tutorial to Students

Posted: November 27, 2018

Beauty Therapy students had the ultimate tutorial in professional make-up delivered on campus by professional make-up artist Helen Ainsworth who has previously worked with big profile clients including OK, Grazia and Misguided.

Helen was amazed by the facilities at North Lindsey College and spent the full day in
the salon with the students. She demonstrated two full looks including a day and an
evening image before the students re-created the look with the guidance of the
professional. The demonstrations considered textures, colours and enhancing skills.
Helen also covered cross infection, cleanliness, behaviour around clients and spoke
the reality of being a make-up artist and how to break into it, about the story and her
success.

Helen uses the same make-up range that the students work within the Ora salon,
Pierre René Professional. A 30 year old cosmetic brand with over 300 cruelty free
products to choose from. Pierre René eyeshadows are created using the highest
quality mineral formula which guarantees lasting effect without irritation.

Helen was particularly impressed with the College and its facilities and stated, “What
an incredible environment, it is state of the art. My first impressions was how
immaculate the College is and how professional the staff are. I noticed the Lee
Stafford range in hairdressing too – the students are so lucky to have these
opportunities; they really are in a fortunate place. Where I came from, there isn’t
anything like this; I can’t stress enough the opportunities open to them.”

Student Emily Garner (17) said, “It’s been really interesting and I have learnt a lot
about doing other peoples’ makeup. It was really good to be able to have a go
straight after the demonstration too and is the best way to learn. It’s helpful to see
other professionals work not just your tutor’s – it really does improve your skills.”
