Thoughtful Student Organises Pamper Session for the Elderly

Posted: February 19, 2019

Seventeen-year-old student Melissa Lilburn, a former Frederick Gough pupil, decided to organise a special trip for some of the residents from St Mary’s Care home with a free pamper session in the hairdressing salons, Ora, base at North Lindsey College.

Melissa’s mum works at the care home, which inspired Melissa to organise the special trip to the hairdressing salon, on site at North Lindsey College. Melissa stated, “Some of the residents don’t get to go out all that often, so I thought it would
be a nice idea if some of them could come to the salon and be pampered at no cost.”

Four of the residents and two staff members had their hair washed and blow-dried and two had scalp treatments as part of their visit.

Melissa continued, “I feel good that I have managed to pull this off. I think that the ladies have really enjoyed being pampered and we have had lots of giggles.”

Resident, Elizabeth Leggott, said, “It’s been brilliant. The atmosphere is good, all the girls have talked to us and we they all had a laugh with us; they are all lovely. I’m happy with my hair and I would like to come back, it’s nice in here.”

Mandy Lilburn (St Mary’s Nursing Home Care Assistant) commented, “The ladies have loved it. The ladies all chose if they wanted to come as we have a hairdresser that comes into the home; but this was a real treat for them and we would do it again. Melissa organised it all and the trainee hairdressers and the residents did fabulous.”
