HNC Construction and the Built Environment

The Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction and the Built Environment covers the fundamental concepts, principles and theories of construction and the built environment.

Design, construction and maintenance aspects are covered including transferable skills of communication and numeracy.

This programme provides a practical and academic challenge within the framework of current industrial practices in construction. It is designed to enhance the practical and team leading skills of individuals who want to further their career in construction management.

RQF Units

Year one

– Construction Technology
– Legal and Statutory Responsibilities in Construction
– Construction Information (Drawing, Detailing Specification)
– Construction Practice & Management
– Science and Materials

Year two

– Individual Project (Pearson-set)
– Building Information Modelling
– Measurement and Estimating – Project Management
– Maintenance & Operations

You will normally be required to have achieved the BTEC National Certificate or Diploma or A level or NVQ/VRQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area. If you hold significant practical experience or craft qualifications but not the usual Level 3 entry requirement, your application would also be considered.

You could progress into a Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment at North Lindsey College. The Higher National programmes are an ideal vehicle for progression into construction and project management roles which include tendering and estimating, contracts management, project management, site management and cost control through quantity surveying.
