HND Computer Science

This is a full-time, two year course resulting in the award of a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Computer Science by the University of Lincoln. The qualification is designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to enhance their career potential in the computing profession. The course is aimed mainly, but not exclusively, at those who have some computing experience.

The programme also aims to develop professional and transferable skills in a wide range of methods, techniques and practices appropriate for the task domain of a professional software developer.

The HND Computer Science is made up of modules, each carrying credits (15 or 30) towards the final qualification.

Some applicants come through the experiential route (relevant work or practical experience). If you think this applies to you, please contact the Programme Leader as we may be able to accredit other learning experience you have.

Students may progress from the HND, with a good profile, directly into Year 3 of the BSc (Hons) Computer Science at the University of Lincoln. A HND qualification would also provide progression into other relevant honours degrees with the point of entry depending upon the University applied to.

Alternatively, on successful completion of a HND, students often seek employment to pursue careers across a wide range of industries seeking IT professions in roles such as programming, systems analysis, systems management and database development.

A variety of assessment methods are used, made up of a combination of coursework, in-class tests and some examinations
