AS Level English Literature

Completed over 1 year if you opt to do the AS Level, or 2 years if you opt to study the A Level. English is attractive to both employers and universities. This fascinating course will introduced you to a wide range of literacy texts that have inspired many generations. Set texts include: The modern collection: Poems of the decade / classic poetry collection, the dystopian sceince-fiction novels, Never Let Me Go and Frankenstein, plus A Streetcar Named Desire and a Shakespeare play. Throughout the course you will develop important analytical and communication skills that will help to develop your understanding and enjoyment of films and books.

Units you may study include: Drama Prose (before and after 1900) Poetry

Ideally at least a GCSE grade 5-6 or GCSE grade B in English, but this is subject to discussion at your interview. If you haven’t already achieved a GCSE grade 5 or grade C in Maths, then you will study either GCSE or Functional Skills Maths alongside your other qualifications.

Students may have the opportunity to study additional subjects and participate in sporting, social or enterprising activities. Examples of the various activities will be made available to you by your tutors; opportunities are varied and change each year.

We plan to offer work experience, employer talks, employer visits and other employer involvement in all our programmes.
