Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training

This course is aimed at individuals who have or would like to gain experience working as a fitness instructor in a gym. If you can demonstrate competence in planning, reviewing and adapting fitness programmes to different types of people and lead, teach and evaluate a range of fitness activities, then this could be the course for you. You will also complete a studio cycling course as part of your programme of study.

Units you may study include:
Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health
Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
Principles of exercise, fitness and health
Planning gym-based exercise
Instructing gym-based exercise
Customer service and client support in health and fitness
Leading induction to gym equipment
Leading group-based activities in a gym-based environment
Social media marketing in health and fitness
Products and technology in health and fitness
Planning a circuit training session
Instructing a circuit training session
Employability skills

Ideally at least 5 GCSEs at grade 9-5 or A*-C including English and Maths or a Level 2 Diploma in Instruction Exercise and Fitness, but this is subject to discussion at your interview. If you haven’t already achieved a GCSE grade 5 or grade C in English or Maths, then you will study either GCSE or Functional Skills English or Maths alongside your other qualifications.

Students may have the opportunity to study additional subjects and participate in sporting, social or enterprising activities. Examples of the various activities will be made available to you by your tutors; opportunities are varied and change each year.

We plan to offer work experience, employer talks, employer visits and other employer involvement in all our programmes.

After completing your course you could progress on to study sport, exercise science and related field at university. Alternatively, you could progress straight into employment in the sport industry including an apprenticeship. Studying sport could lead to a career as a sports coach, youth leader, sport instructor, personal trainer, PE teacher, sports masseur, physiotherapist, sport scientist or many other opportunities.
