Technical Level 2 Certificate in IT

The Level 2 technical certificate gives an insight into the IT sector, as you investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure on a global scale and the importance of legal and security considerations. Designed in collaboration with industry experts, the qualification focuses on the requirements that today’s employers demand.
You will also develop professional, personal and social skills through interaction with peers and industry professionals. You will also gain the theoretical knowledge and understanding that underpins your practical skills. These support the transferable skills required by employers such as communication, problem solving, time management, research and analytical skills.

Units you may study include:
Essentials of IT (exam)
Essentials of cyber security (exam)
Using emerging technologies
Using data analysis software
Digital Garage
Employability skills

Ideally at least 4 GCSEs at grade 9-4 or grade A*-D or a Level 1 qualification, but this is subject to discussion at your interview. If you haven’t already achieved a GCSE grade 5 or grade C in English or Maths, then you will study either GCSE or Functional Skills English or Maths alongside your other qualifications.

Students may have the opportunity to study additional subjects and participate in sporting, social or enterprising activities. Examples of the various activities will be made available to you by your tutors; opportunities are varied and change each year.

We plan to offer work experience, employer talks, employer visits and other employer involvement in all our programmes.

After completing your course you could progress on to study a Level 3 Diploma in Systems Support or a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Computing. Alternatively, you could progress straight into employment in the computing industry including an apprenticeship. Studying digital technologies could lead to a career as a software engineer, games developer, IT technician, mobile apps developer, IT manager, programmer, computer animator and many other opportunities.
