Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning

Taught by industry experienced staff this course provides you with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to work directly with children and young people in school and college environments. It covers all aspects of specialist support including, planning, delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher, bilingual support, special needs support and personal development and reflective practice.
It is aimed at people progressing into roles that offer specialist support for pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools as well as colleges.

Units you may study include:
Schools and colleges as organisations
Supporting health and safety in a learning environment
Understanding how to safeguard children and young people
Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults
Employability skills

Ideally at least 5 GCSEs at grade 9-5 or A*-C including English and Maths or a Level 2 qualification, but this is subject to discussion at your interview. If you haven’t already achieved a GCSE grade 5 or grade C in English or Maths, then you will study either GCSE or Functional Skills English or Maths alongside your other qualifications.

Students may have the opportunity to study additional subjects and participate in sporting, social or enterprising activities. Examples of the various activities will be made available to you by your tutors; opportunities are varied and change each year.

You will attend placements in a childcare setting.

After completing your course you could progress on to study education, social work, primary education, childhood studies or related fields at university. Alternatively, you could progress straight into employment in a childcare and education related field including an apprenticeship. Studying childcare and education could lead to a career as a nanny, child minder, créche worker, teaching assistant, teacher, early years practitioner, social worker, nursery nurse, play leader and many more opportunities.
